Here are some tips for how to make the most of your stay at Disneyland Paris

Use the Disney Fastpass system when queues are longer than 30 minutes. This allows you to return to the attraction after about an hour and skip the main queue. It is a good idea to get a Fastpass as soon as you enter a 'land' for the most popular rides, so that you can go on other rides whilst you are waiting. To use Fastpass, insert your park ticket (passport) in a machine near the attraction (under a Fastpass banner) and take the ticket that comes out. It will show a time slot in which you can return to the attraction to ride it without waiting in the main queue. Please note: you cannot obtain a 2nd Fastpass before the timeslot on your original Fastpass ticket. There may even be a short queue for Fastpass if the attraction breaks down or if there is an unusually high number of people with the same timeslot. If the main queue time is under 30 minutes, it may be better to wait rather than return later. Fastpass attractions are (as of last update): Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril, Star Tours, Peter Pan's Flight, Rock 'n Roller Coaster*, Studio Tram Tour*, and Flying Carpets over Agrabah*.

Arrive as soon as (or before) the park opens. Sometimes the gates open before the stated opening time to let guests into the park, although few attractions would be open. However, this allows you to get to the entrance of the most popular attractions before the queue builds up. Often it is possible to do more in the first hour of the park opening than in the rest of the morning.

Rides are less busy during parades and mealtimes. If you are not interested in seeing parades and other shows, check their times anyway so that you can head for popular attractions when they are less busy. Try to take lunch before midday or after 2pm, when restaurants in the park will be quieter. This will also give you chance to ride attractions over lunchtime, when queues are shorter.

Take a break from the park in the early or mid-afternoon. This is particularly important if you are visiting with young children, as a long day at Disneyland Paris can be tiring as well as fun! If you are staying at a Disney hotel (apart from the Davy Crocket Ranch), return to your room or the swimming pool (if available) to relax for an hour or two. You will be able to enjoy the rest of the day more after a break, and gives you time to plan what you want to visit later. If you are not staying at a Disney hotel, why not take a walk around Lake Disney or Disney Village? Lake Disney is a perfect place for a picnic (not allowed in the park itself), allowing you to save money on expensive Disney food and relax at the same time.

Many people make their way around the park in an anti-clockwise manner, visiting Discoveryland first. This leads to Discoveryland being very busy in the morning and early afternoon. The reasons for this are most likely to be because it has the most attractions for adults (who decide on the family's itinerary!), the striking appearance of Space Mountain and an unobstructed view of the land from Central Plaza. However, families with younger children are more likely to head for Fantasyland first, where there are more suitable attractions for their children. To avoid long queues, try the other lands at these times.

If visiting Walt Disney Studios as well as Disneyland Park, try to visit the former in the late afternoon and evening. By this time the queues are reduced significantly, because most guests have already explored its attractions during the morning and early afternoon (when it is busiest). Also, at the time of writing, guests in the new park (with a single park ticket) are being offered the chance to see Disneyland Park during the last couple of hours before it closes - many take up this offer, but if you have a two-park ticket anyway it is worth using this quiet time to skip queues!
